 World Development:

Life expectancies

Key ideas from the WJEC AS World Development specification:
  • Definitions of poverty lead to measurements of poverty. These involve either quantitative or qualitative assessments of the distribution of wealth and attempts to indicate economic growth or social factors.
  • There are indicators of Group National Product (GNP), Gross Domestic Product (GDP), life expectancy, mortality rates, provision of water and sanitation, literacy, health services quality of life and population. These measurements reflect the interests of those compiling them.
  • Case studies of different attitudes to life expectancies in two contrasting areas.
